Introduction: Four words to describe yourself.
Informal poll (anonymous) -- What sucks about meetings, what to do more of, KP do as an org this year!
This week in gay news:
Hate Crimes bill up for vote tomorrow (National).
Republican Mayor of San Diego was going to veto a "bill" to disallow gay marriage in the city, but suddenly broke down and confessed--he had a change-of-heart.

Public Relations
Dan -- movie, Sunday before pride week. Ideas for LGBT & International movie? DOTS meeting...has manual about event planning, etc, will be in KP office.
Dawn -- NCOD things later. Press release for library...has been done, but was before classes started. New updated version? We have the bibliography now.
Secretary -- see me to be added to the pride-l.
Advisors Report
Phopp --
Marg -- Advisor meeting yesterday. Book on how to advise others. Some topics were decent and others off the wall. Still worthwhile. The KP Advisors are "over-advisors". Oh well. Thanks to Nancy, Dianne, Phopp, Gail and everyone else for coming (^_-) and sharing your time.
Nancy -- Lock-in was very enjoyable even with her absence, and Phopp is NOT ALLOWED to buy all of the food next time! Very happy time. Everyone plaid very nicely together. We are working on the next training for the Safe Place briefing. Anyone with information or experience should discuss it with Nancy to be brought up in the next Safe Place meeting.
Old Business
Gay? Fine By Me -- Steve made a spreadsheet of expenses. Total costs, etc. Aim for more shirts than in the past, but at least try! Who will be funding this: Steve will be going to IRHC Oct 1. Les Cook and Glenn Mroz gave $500 each last year. IRHC wants shirts to be distributed at all the res halls. Instead of recommended distribution, we need more mediums and larges. Cut extra-small amts in half and add to mediums and larges. Colors: no pink...rainbow? Keep black with gold (admin may require that we have Tech colors) regardless of adding a variety of color. Expand G?FBM to the community? Good Shepard, High schools, contact PFLAG. During winter people are wearing jackets, not as much visibility. Week before Pride week (Pride Week: March 30-April 4) may be good advertising... Day that homosexuality was removed from the APA Mental Illness list may be a good distribution day. General consensus to distribute in the Spring, such as a month to a week before Pride Week. [Is weather even a factor to consider? jackets aren't worn in class...].
Pride Week -- General idea of events. Guess the Straight Person, IFF film, roundtable, Drag Show, any new ideas? Lecture in place of or along with the comedian? Jen O has $1,500 to bring in a speaker. Over $1,000 in Credit Union from last year. John Corvino? Don't replace the comedian, replace the discussion roundtable due to attendance...but money constraints may interfere. Remember Jen O needs to use the money for a lecture...not a comedian. A speaker may seem a little rash, at least a comedian with bring some comic relief. John Corvino might be a good in-between. K-Day: Dawn was told by a comedian-org on campus that they could collaborate to bring a comedian. Research. Two movies? To be decided later.
Participating in Wellness Week -- Sexual health, table to handout condoms and pamphlets, demonstrations, more creativity. Make it known that people need to talk and be comfortable about sex and be aware of STDs, get tested. Sex positive. Jess, Elsa, and Rihannon to prepare presentation. Use ideas from BGC.
ABCs of PC [Political Correctness]. Presentation to KP--some group members still don't now everything about homo-talk and queer situations. Contact Patti Kieckhafer--Perspectives instructor -- Human Sexuality and Society
The Female O, Monday, Oct 8.
NCOD -- Andrew ordered and received a package from HRC for NCOD. [Passed around] Sign-up sheet to be passed around to staff table. Thursday 10-5, however long you can stay. At least two people all the time.
OT: Changing the "gender box" and all other non-gender neutral language on all application-like forms on campus. Memo just sent out. It will be done!
New Business
Create a table tent to distribute to companies on Career Day etc. to show that the company is LGBT-friendly. Work with the career center to get the paperwork, interview companies at the career fair--"Do you offer domestic partner benefits?" Service for the closeted queer person. Interested in helping: Steve, Elsa, Jess, Lucas, Dawn, Dan. If list is not published online, contact career center.
Support Group -- Patti Kirk is still waiting to start the support group, possibly being student-run (KP). Compromise was to allow a student facilitator--grad student who wants experience in a closed-doors confidential support group setting. Hours, pay info unknown yet. Rihannon will continue to investigate. Hopefully will start next week. Seems that the best time for it to be is Wednesday evenings before KP. Might be difficult with student supervisor that is part of KP. General consensus was to have a student or person who was an objective third party and could reduce the chances of creating bias in the group. It would be difficult to find a student not involved in KP who would be able to help with the support group. To be discussed with Patti next week.
Ryan Robinson (HRC) -- sent Andrew an e-mail last week, wanted us to lobby Bart Stupak, but unfortunately the vote is tomorrow...Rep Stupak unfortunately will most likely not vote for us. We are an amazing group according to the HRC folks in DC!
OUTlook is proposing a huge homo-yooper collegiate conference...MTU, NMU, FU, Bay College, Gogebic, LSSU, etc.
BGC committee for hotels...planning for funds. Internship...gain experience, especially for people considering e-board for next year. For all about the BGC [Big Gay Conference] go to www.mblgtacc2008.org.
Gail, Ben, Andrew interested in being in the committee for the BGC planning.
Big Gay Movie Night at Phopp's this weekend. Saturday night at 5 pm. Bring food!
Talking Stick for social tonight.
Nich motions to adjourn; Ben seconds; adjourned.
