Wow Long Time No See
My apologies for not updating the sight for the last two months. Here is a quick recap of what we have done. We had the the G?FBM T-shirt pass out September 21th and then the retreat that weekend. Both went off without a hitch and were amazing. As a kick off to GLBT history month on October 1st housing sponsored us to have a booth for the black out hockey game. They also donated money for us to get black “gay? fine by Michigan Tech” T-shirts for the game. It was a lot of fun for all involved. October 11th was National Coming Out Day; we had our rainbow door out in front of the MUB. We got pictures of people who wanted them as they came through the door and will soon be sending them out to the people who wanted a copy. Robyn Ochs came up October 18th and gave a few lectures and seminars. I was not able to attend, but I have heard Robyn speak before and it was very interesting. We watched Before Stonewall and After Stonewall as two of our GLBT history month films. Josh Burford came up October 27th and did a lecture on “GLBTQ History: Reclaiming the Queer Past.” Then for November we watched “Two Spirits” on the 3rd. And most recently we observed Transgender Day of Remembrance. The original plan was to go out to Chutes and Ladders, release sky lanterns and say prayer for all those who have been lost in the last year to violence and hatred. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions we could not make it out to Chutes and Ladders so we instead had a moment of silence at the general meeting and Nancy said a beautiful prayer.
I will try to keep the site better updated. If you would like any information about any of these stories feel free to e-mail me at nkgravli@mtu.edu.
We took first place in Parade of Nations!!
Parade of Nations was a blast and the food was amazing. We had a lot of fun, but the best part is we took first in the float competition (link here once a page is found.) Along with the pride of taking first we also won $250. WOOOOT!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone who helped out with decorating and walking in the parade and Renee for donating her truck.
This week we are folding and passing out shirts. Look for us Thursday in all dining halls, Fisher and the MUB. As always any questions email Rae at Rnbryant@mtu.edu.

If you want to know when and where we will meet email Brett Campbell at Brettc@mtu.edu.

Pride Week 2011
Hello everyone!
Pride Week 2011 is coming up in just a couple short weeks, starting March 27th and going until April 1st. We have some excellent events planned for everyone, and we hope you enjoy them.
Sunday: Film: “Prop 8″, 8pm in Fisher 135
March 27th is our annual film night. We’ll be showing “Prop 8: The Mormon Proposition”, a movie described by IMDb as “a scorching indictment of the Mormon Church’s historic involvement in the promotion & passage of California’s Proposition 8 and the Mormon religion’s secretive, decades-long campaign against LGBT human rights.”
Monday: Safer Sex Night, 8pm in the Wads Annex
March 28th is our Safer Sex Night. We’ll be going over a variety of safer sex practices that help prevent the spread of STIs.
Tuesday: Guess the Straight Person, 7:30pm in the DHH Ballroom
March 29th is our annual Guess the Straight Person event. Come meet our panel and guess their orientation. This event is meant to prove that not all stereotypes indicate a person’s sexual orientation.
Wednesday: JAC Stringer, 7:30pm in the MUB Ballroom
March 30th is a presentation by Activist JAC Stringer. JAC is well known for his educational and entertaining presentations, and we hope everyone will come and learn about some things that not many know about.
Thursday: Taboo Talk, 7pm in the DHH Ballroom
March 31st is Taboo Talk. Got a topic that is taboo in your community that you want to know more about? Come to this event!
Friday: 11th Annual Drag Show, 8pm in the Rozsa Theater FREE FREE FREE!!!!!
April 1st is the 11th Annual Michigan Tech Drag Show! This year, we’ll be featuring the extraordinary talents of Joey Black, Tabitha Stevens, Cass Marie Domino, and, coming all the way from Las Vegas, DuWanna Moore! Seats fill up fast, so get there early!
We hope to see you all at these amazing events, and look for our posters and table tents (coming soon!).
GLBTQA Coordinator Position
Our friends at the Center for Diversity and Inclusion on campus have posted a job description for a GLBTQA outreach coordinator, and we encourage everyone to take a look at the job description and spread the word.
Spring 2011
We have quite a few things planned for this semester, and we hope you’ll come to our upcoming events! So far, the planning for our main event (aka Pride Week) is going well, and it’ll be a great one yet again. We’ve also got some great events up our sleeves that we’ll reveal as the semester goes on.
We’d all like to invite you to come to our meetings, which are held every week in Alumni Lounge A in the Memorial Union Building. It’s always a great time to meet new people and build new bridges, and we encourage everyone to participate. We also invite those of you in need of support, whether you are a student, faculty member, or community member, to come to the Center for Diversity and Inclusion in the Hamar House and speak with members from Keweenaw Pride.
Everyone have fun this semester, drive safe, and stay warm!
