A night at the rifle range

Keweenaw Pride members and friends spent an evening at the MTU Rifle Range, with members of the Michigan Tech University Competition Rifle Team.

About 15 members attended the social, and everybody seemed to have fun getting rid of some stress and testing their accuracy and precision with the rifle team at the range.

A big thanks to MTU Competition Rifle Team president Zach Simpson for arranging the outing.  Some pictures of the event are available in our photo gallery.

Congratulations and good luck KP’s 2009 grads!

Congratulations and good luck to our 2009 spring semesters graduates. Elsa, Larry, Christan, Michael, Lycus, Jeff, Reychl and Jess.

Keweenaw Pride celebrated the hard work and success of our graduates at our end of the year picnic/get together. The weather might not of been picnic perfect but a good time was had by all. Brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and cake followed by climbing trees, and then relaxing for hours just chilling as a group.

A special thank you to Elsa, Christian, Michael, Lycus and Jeff for their hard work as members of Keweenaw Prides executive board over the past 4+ years.

Feel free to leave comments thanking them for their efforts, and encouraging them as they prepare to enter the world outside of Michigan Tech.

In the News

Part of Pride Week is educating the public on GLBT issues and challenging the larger community to engage in a dialogue.

April 17th was National Day of Silence all over the US.  It was started in 1995 to illustrate the silencing effect of anti-GLBT bullying in schools.  This day reminds us that we must all take the time to talk about things that are important, and not be silenced by fear.  Keweenaw Pride supports and encourages discussion about GLBT issues in all of its’ forms.

This discussion is meant to help you understand what exactly it means to be an Ally.

Drag Show

MUB Ballroom
8:00 pm

As a final celebration to the week, we welcome you to our 10th annual Drag Show. Miss Joey Black, along three other queens including the world renowned Cher impersonator, Miss Candi Stratton, will be performing. Don’t know what a Drag Show is? Well it definitely has nothing to do with fast Cars!! Drag show’s are when fabulous entertainers, Queens(men) and Kings(women) dress up in stunning costumes of members of the opposite sex and perform(lip sync) songs from famous artists. It’s tongue-in-cheek entertainment where gender boundaries are annihilated, and we have a lot of fun along the way.

We will also be featuring our Amateur Competition, where your classmates will compete, IN DRAG, for fantastic prizes and the adoration of the crowd. Prizes packages are donated from local businesses, and awarded by a panel of student judges. Thinking of competing? Register ahead of time, or show up at the door with your makeup done and music in hand! To make sure you get on the list you should email us at pride@mtu.edu and let us know you plan to compete, time and slots are limited.
