Job Fair 2008 - GLBT Inclusivness survey

18 02 2008

MTUs Job Fair is Tuesday February 19th from 9:00am - 4:00pm.

As students are searching for internships, jobs, or co-ops, one important decision factor is how GLBT inclusive their company is. many companies have submitted their information on whether their non-discrimination policy includes sexual orientation & gender identity, and information on whether they provide same-sex partner benefits.

This sign will be at company tables to display their level of GLBT inclusiveness.

Check out how companies rank on HRC's Corporate Equality Index.

Relay for Life Keweenaw Pride

Keweenaw Pride is starting a Relay for Life Team!

Cancer affects millions of people across the globe and many people right here in our community. By joining our team or making a donation, you will be a part of Relay For Life® to celebrate survivors, remember the people we've lost to cancer, and fight back against this disease.

Each year, across the nation, one event
brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives.

Won’t you join us this year and be a part of Relay?
It’s not just an opportunity to celebrate, remember, and fight back your involvement will help the American Cancer Society work toward a mission of eliminating cancer as major health issue and will support much-needed services in your community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world.

Winter Carnival Statue Update!

27 01 2008

Winter Carnival starts on February 6th. As part of Winter Carni this year, Keweenaw Pride is participating in the month long snow statue competition. The theme is "Frightening Creatures with Chilling Features". To go along with the theme we are doing a scene from the film 'Monsters Inc'. Themes in this film can be applied to GLBT people and society. It is interesting how Monsters were the norm while human children were the horrifying monster in every closet door.

So far, the statue is going great! Thank you to everyone that was able to make it out, we should be able to start carving them out at this point. Winter Carnival snow statue judging begins at 9:00 am on February 7th. Check us out under the bridge between Reiki & the JR Van Pelt Library.
